The Louisiana Arson and Fire Prevention Association and Bossier Parish Fire District 1 will be hosting a class titled “Juvenile Firesetting Intervention: Interviewing and Program Interventions: A Closer Look” at Bossier Parish Fire District’s 1 Central Station, on Friday, May 10th starting at 8:30 AM. The station is located at 4494 Highway 80 in Haughton, LA.
The class will discuss in significant detail the who, what, how, why and when’s of both the interview and educational process associated with juvenile firesetting intervention. This class will provide members interested in delivering intervention programs a detailed look at the ABC’s of preparing for, conducting and evaluating interviews, with a focus on using the United States Fire Administration’s juvenile firesetting intervention tools. The class will also discuss utilizing the results of the interview process to select what educational presentations will be most appropriate given the juvenile’s family, cognitive and firesetting background.
All students are asked to download and print the USFA Juvenile Firesetting Intervention Handbook at https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/ED449407.pdf as it will be used during the class.
There is no fee for the class and it is open to anyone who currently works with or wishes to work with juvenile firesetters.
The class will likely go until about 3:30 PM.
